FESTIVAL: FRUIT PICKING INFO
We waited till now in hopes that we were able to give you better news. However, this weekend is not the best time to go fruit picking in Bacchus Marsh. Unfortunately, with the cold weather and rain, the farms have very little stock available, they need a couple of weeks of sunshine.
Usually by this time of the year they are in full swing.
The farms will still open at 9am on Saturday and only stay open until ripe fruit runs out which may only be a couple of hours on this occasion.
TIP: It would be best to come back to Bacchus Marsh in about 3 weeks to pick fruit from the farms. The fruit farms are open every day. from now until April for Berries and until January for Cherries.
We can understand families will be disappointed in not being able to pick fruit this weekend, however, the weather is outside our control.
We will have plenty of strawberries and Cherries in the street for sale, our wonderful farming community in the Yarra Valley have come to our rescue to ensure we have fruit for the weekend. This event is the celebration of the start of the growing and picking season.
For those still willing to try their chances at fruit picking on Saturday morning:
Each farm has their own prices and procedures for picking.
- NATURERIPE
Pick your own Strawberries only
They provide the containers
$13kg.
Their farm is open every day during the season - from now until April from 9am.until sold out.
PAYNES ORCHARD
- Cherries
https://www.paynesorchards.com.au
Also very weather dependent this year, the rain has destroyed many cherries as they split with too much water. Their prices are on the website.
STRAWBERRY FARM, Lederderg Street
This is a new small farm that has punnet sales only (so sweet)! I picked some up this morning, they also have limited stock and will open at 8.30am until sold out. $5 a punnet.
Thanks for your understanding regarding the fruit picking situation. Give it another 3-4 weeks to come along on another weekend to pick at the farms. For now we invite people to come and enjoy the festival this upcoming weekend.
